What tasks did the Second Continental Congress acomplish and why?

The Second Continental congress was held on May 10, 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When the Second Continental Congress met the Revolutionary War had already started. What the Continental Congress worked for and accomplished was to get closer to gaining Independence and to soon  write the Decloration of independence. They also acted as a national government for the colonists who were battling and rebelling against the British.
